Of Wind and Wasps

31/3/12

As I stand on the roof of our apartment in Conil I look along the Atlantic Coast of Spain and watch the waves lap on the shore,  the sea birds flying overhead and people strolling romatically along the sand.

However, as I look at little closers at the palm trees lining the beach I can see that they are not gently swaying in a light breeze but being tossed in a high gale force wind, suddenly a flash of lighting rips the sky apart and a clap of thunder rattles the windows of the surrounding buildings - this does not bear well for wasps! Seconds later the torrential downpour starts - definitely no good for wasps!

So far we have been and marked 80 nests - fingers crossed the rain will not have washed anyway. The forthcoming weather forecast does not seem to raise our hopes - wind and rain said to persist until at least until Monday.

Fingers crossed for an improvement soon or there will be no wasp work!

Days without stings: 4

Spanish word of the day:  viento - wind
